How did you meet?

We met at a bar through a mutual friend. I had just left a first date that wasn’t going so well and Tony was out celebrating his Touch Grand Final win. We exchanged numbers and he went back to Brisbane for the next few months for work, but we stayed in contact. During this time music really brought us together. We used to email each other a ‘Gem of the Day’… basically a song we thought was really cool for the other person to listen to. I remember thinking this guy has pretty great taste! Then two months later he moved to Townsville, we started dating and haven’t looked back since.

Describe the proposal?

We were at Harvest Festival in Melbourne listening to the band on the top of my ‘must see live’ list, Icelandic band Sigur Ros. During one of our favourite songs ‘Glosoli’ Tony got down in the middle of the mosh pit on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was a beautiful surprise and strangers around us were all hugging us and congratulating us afterwards. I ended up walking down the aisle to the their song ‘Hippipola’.

How did you decide on a place to celebrate your wedding day?

We were looking for somewhere where you could have a lot of people stay and also have an outdoor wedding with a lovely setting. We didn’t want a curfew or noise restrictions as we wanted to be able to dance all night long, so when we found Lavendar Hill it was perfect! The massive house has a ridiculous amount of beds and there is plenty of space both outside and inside for entertaining. It’s very close to Yungaburra, so many of guests also stayed in the cute cottages there. The tablelands is such a beautiful place and it was great to share this area with our guest, all of whom travelled great distances to be there.

Tell us about finding your wedding dress:

I found it in a Bridal Shop in Townsville and ended up buying it online from a shop in New York for less than half the price!

Describe your wedding flowers:

Gorgeous and ample. We used a local lady who works from home and she sold us several boxes of flowers at wholesale price so we could arrange them ourselves into the hundreds of jars on the tables. She also made me a beautiful bouquet and my 3 smaller bouquets for my wonderful bridesmaids.

Describe your wedding cake:

We both love CHEESE! So we bought 3 cheese wheels from a delicious local dairy and stacked these to create a tiered cheese cake! It was a hit with the guests.

What was the biggest challenge you faced while planning your big day?

Wanting to do everything myself. I am very arty and loved making things for the wedding, but I ran out of time to make everything I had dreamt up. Luckily I have amazing friends and family and everyone pitched in during the final days to sew, glue, arrange, saw, construct, paint and decorate the final touches to help make my vision a reality. It was a really heart-warming way to lead up to a fabulous and unforgettable wedding.

What was the most memorable moment about your wedding day?

All the dancing and guest DJ sets! We have a huge vinyl record collection and we both love music, so music was a big feature of our wedding. For entertainment we organised different friends throughout the night to each do a 40min DJ set using our records. I paired up with my sister and we like to claim that our set was undoubtedly the best!

I would also have to say a memorable moment was when Tony and I finally left Lavender Hill. It was a reflective moment when we looked back on the previous four days we had just spent with the most amazing friends and family and we realised how lucky we were to have made so many lasting memories with these people. We turned a one day wedding into an unforgettable 4 day event full of special moments.

Did you write your own vows?

Yes we both wrote our own vows in secret. Our celebrant made a comical error when reading them back to us to repeat, which caused a lot of laughter for our guests.

Where did you go for your honey moon?

We went on a month long adventure through Tanzania! It was breathtakingly beautiful staring with an unforgettable 10 day safari through the national parks taking in an abundance of native wildlife and a 3 day donkey assisted hike through rural villages and past volcanoes. We then took on the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and finished with the relaxing turquoise blue waters of Zanzibar to ease our aching muscles. We called it our ‘Buddy Moon’ as we went with three other couples who all had weddings around the same time as ours. Tony and I also went on a weeklong trip by ourselves after the wedding to the Daintree National Park for a relaxing break.

What’s next for you guys?

We are currently expecting our first baby due in Dec this year! We can’t wait to be parents!

Who were your suppliers on the day?

Daivd from Coral Coast Catering in Cairns blew us away with the delicious food he cooked on location in his portable kitchen.

Angie from Botanica in Atherton created our beautiful bouquets.

Kutting Edge looked after our hair and makeup.

Ben from Sass Photography who captured all the wonderful details of the day.
